So it's not a shock that we would've found our way around it by now. So it's definitely not "recent arcade games", or at the very least, it's games still being released on older platforms.Įdit: Sega Ringedge-2 is the most recent board listed as compatible, and that's still 6 years old. The list of supported boards on that website are almost 10 years old now, the games linked in the OP range from about 6-8 years old. Why wouldn't you be able to run a game on a platform you've been able to emulate for over 10 years at that point? That was more of a result of SNK's continued use of the MVS platform over a decade after release. Emulation can and should happen as soon as possible, regardless of how you feel about it, because by the time it's actually functional from a mass user standpoint, it'll be a few years out anyway. What exactly are you proposing they make? a motherboard? why? they already exist. Can we not have the emulation = piracy argument again, we're barely 30 posts in.

Why would ANYONE want to spend money on 6-12+ months of r&d, testing, prototyping, fabbing, and more testing on custom hardware thats virtually no different than whats already available?ĭo you know what it would cost to the end user to create custom hardware that would be on par with what the type x2 and lindbergh do? whats the point of making a motherboard to use an off the shelf cpu when they can just buy one thats already made? What exactly are you proposing they make? a motherboard? why? they already exist. It would be easier and cheaper to design a completely custom hardware set than to just use off the shelf parts that more developers will be familiar with, will be more interchangeable in the event of required repairs, and be way cheaper to acquire as theyre already in mass production?Ĭustom hardware is now more or less limited to purpose built devices that have to meet specific speed, reliability, size, and energy consumption requirements.
